McKenzie TS 4: My Phuong
January 31, 2025
At the beginning of my tutoring session with My Phuong, I helped her work on one of her class assignments. She had completed a worksheet in her composition class but had a few questions that she was unsure of. We worked through the two questions she had not answered together first. Then, after all the questions were completed, I went through and corrected any grammar or spelling issues I saw in her assignment. Next, we moved on to areas of English that My Phuong wanted to improve. In my previous tutoring session with My Phuong, she told me she wanted to improve her speaking. I devised a speaking exercise that would test her use of present continuous tense and both regular and irregulars with simple past tense. I found images on the internet that consisted of various activities happening. I would have My Phuong point to one of the activities happening in the picture and have her create a sentence using the present continuous tense. Then, I would have her create a sentence using the simple past tense. This was a good exercise to help expand her vocabulary and improve her speaking skills. We also worked on prepositions with movement during this activity. As My Phuong was creating her sentences, I would correct any grammar or pronunciation mistakes she made. When there was an activity for which she didn't know the English word, I would explain the word and its definition.
