Max C/O #5 - Dr. Rios' Group 3 Reading

Today in Dr. Rios' class there was a test, so aside from answering a few questions, there was no teacher presentation or classroom management. Everything was self explanatory. Materials today included a test packet with an article, and reading comprehension questions. Student participation was high, but obviously due to them taking an exam today. They would ask for advice on the questions they didn't understand, and Dr. Rios guided them in the right direction. Minimal feedback in class today, seeing as it was a test day. But I was able to read through the test packet and learned a lot from it. I learned what types of questions are appropriate for level 3 reading quizzes, and how to apply the format to lesson plans I will create.

We recapped our sessions and I asked what he liked, what he wanted to know more of, etc. We also talked about ways to continue practicing English in the future. I introduced him to some American news networks and taught him the differences between more reliable, objective sources and more sensationalized, comedic sources. Dojun plans to use English more in his line of work by communicating with American business partners and clients in English when the opportunity presents itself. Isabelle TS#18/19 with Livio

Date/Time: Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (two sessions) Location: Online on Zoom Topic/Skill: Active and Passive Voice Feedback provided to the tutee: For this session, Livio and I worked on the differences between the active and passive voices. This topic came up during our last lesson when we were learning about writing emails in American English, since Livio did not fully understand the difference between these two tones. The activity we did was modeled after an activity we did for a different lesson that he really enjoyed, where we used his social media page as a vehicle for the activity. I asked him to write sentences about the image on his Instagram in both the active and passive voice so he could learn the difference between the two in practice. Max TS#20 - Karim

 4/29  In Tuesday's session, Karim and I continued working on some more advanced level reading comprehension and conversation. We have been reading lots of international affairs related news articles so Karim can prepare for his master's program with the International Affairs school. The past couple sessions have generally been conversation between Karim and I where I speak to him as I would my friends, so he is more exposed to more everyday speech. When we converse I jump in to correct him or give definitions to any unknown vocabulary.
