Isabelle TS#8 with Livio
Date/Time: Friday, February 7th, 2025, 12:30-1:30 PM
Location: CIES Classrooms in the Kellogg Building
Topic/Skill: Grammar (Past Tenses)
Feedback provided to the tutee: Livio and I went over the four different past tenses and did an activity together with them. I first demonstrated the differences between the four by demonstrating the contexts in which they are used, example sentences of them in use, and the general grammar structures of each tense. Then, for our activity, I showed him a variety of images, each one at a time, and asked him to describe the images in different tenses depending on their circumstances. If I found that he was using the wrong tense, I would ask him about it or ask him to explain what he meant. If he was still confused, I would ask him to look at all of the tenses again and try to use the correct one. We did this until our session time was up!
Lesson(s) about tutoring: I learned that activities that are truly engaging for a specific student or meet a student's needs, they will be especially motivated or eager to learn and complete the lesson. Livio particularly connected with the activity I created because I selected images related to things he likes/things that are relevant to him. This activated his intrinsic motivation and allowed him to enjoy the learning process, making the lesson more meaningful!
