Isabelle TS#7 with Livio
Date/Time: Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, 5:30-6:30 PM
Location: Dodd Hall at FSU
Topic/Skill: Grammar (Learning vowel sounds)
Feedback provided to the tutee: Today, Livio and I focused on practicing different vowel sounds and their pronunciation. He explained to me that vowels are much simpler in Italian which is what makes them so difficult for him to use. I explained to him many of the different grammar rules with vowel sounds and then we took turns making sentences with target vocabulary words (a list he brought from class). I carefully guided him to the right pronunciation and made sure to positively affirm him when he pronounced a word correctly! I also sent him the worksheet we worked on together so he could continue practicing on his own.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I was reminded that learning a new concept or idea can be very overwhelming, especially for something like vowel sounds where the concept comes with a lot of rules and exceptions. However, as the tutor, it's important to have patience when your tutee might be frustrated or maybe taking some time to learn a concept, but also celebrate the progress of your tutee and spark their intrinsic motivation!
