Topic/Skill: Grammar (Future Tenses)

Feedback provided to the tutee: Today's tutoring session was so productive? Today, Livio and I went over all four of the future tenses in a lesson and through an activity. The feedback I provided Livio mainly had to do with our activity: planning his next trip to the United States in the future tense. Any time he would use one of the tenses when he should've used a different one, I would ask him to read the sentence again, and if he didn't catch his mistake, I would ask him about the action of the sentence (is this action ongoing or are you talking about a prediction? Is it connected to a time? etc.).

Lesson(s) about tutoring: I learned that it's really important to remain consistent and motivated as a tutor despite the hardships you may face in previous lessons. While I wasn't entirely unhappy with our last session, I wasn't entirely satisfied either because I felt like my teaching was missing something due to Livio's struggle with the lesson. What I learned, however, is that even though I also struggled to come to terms with how I was feeling about my last lesson, my perseverance served both Livio and myself, and made for an even more rewarding session. Teaching isn't always easy and that's okay? What's important is that you show yourself and your student patience, and understanding, and push through it!

He has been busy with work, but hopes to one day return to the states for vacations and practice there as well.

Isabelle TS#18/19 with Livio

Date/Time: Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (two sessions) Location: Online on Zoom Topic/Skill: Active and Passive Voice Feedback provided to the tutee: For this session, Livio and I worked on the differences between the active and passive voices. This topic came up during our last lesson when we were learning about writing emails in American English, since Livio did not fully understand the difference between these two tones. The activity we did was modeled after an activity we did for a different lesson that he really enjoyed, where we used his social media page as a vehicle for the activity. I asked him to write sentences about the image on his Instagram in both the active and passive voice so he could learn the difference between the two in practice. Max TS#20 - Karim

 4/29  In Tuesday's session, Karim and I continued working on some more advanced level reading comprehension and conversation. We have been reading lots of international affairs related news articles so Karim can prepare for his master's program with the International Affairs school. The past couple sessions have generally been conversation between Karim and I where I speak to him as I would my friends, so he is more exposed to more everyday speech. When we converse I jump in to correct him or give definitions to any unknown vocabulary.
