Ariana TS 5/6: Nejoud
Date & Time: February 9 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
I met with Nejoud for two hours at Ground Ops Cafe in Midtown. I prepared a lesson plan for the session on Google Docs so I could share it with her and we could both view and edit the document simultaneously.
For this lesson, I created a vocabulary list which incorporated vocabulary from the previous lesson as well as some new words. After reviewing the definitions, I had a fill in the blank activity for her to complete. Then I had her use five of the words in a sentence. She grasps vocabulary very quickly, but her grammar needs work. We took a short break before moving onto the second lesson I had planned.
The second part of the tutoring session was a listening activity. I found a YouTube video created by CBS Sunday Morning about Japanese Americans making mochi. I had several comprehension questions for her and afterwards we had a discussion about mochi and where it can be found in the US.
