Ramirez TS #6: Je-Won

 Date: 01/28/25 8pm on zoom 

Je-Won and I worked on picture description and comparison during our first activity: "Find the Difference" worksheets. We used new vocabulary words, like rays of sunlight, watermelon, lemon, colors, and more. During this activity I corrected Je-Won on making sure to use articles before nouns, and using "there are" not just "blue chicken on right and pink chicken on left." During our second activity, we played role-play activities, where I gave him a scenario, and then gave him four words to choose from to ask a question. For example: taxi: home, going, please, greeting. We also did doctor, airplane, and a lost person. He asked one question and I would give him four more questions based on the other words he hadn't chose. 

Je-won really like the find the difference worksheets so I think similar activities would be helpful for the future.

Date/Time: Sunday 6/1 @ 10:00am Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Recap I finished my 20 tutoring hours, but Dojun and I had previously scheduled our final lesson. We recapped our sessions and I asked what he liked, what he wanted to know more of, etc. We also talked about ways to continue practicing English in the future. I introduced him to some American news networks and taught him the differences between more reliable, objective sources and more sensationalized, comedic sources. Dojun plans to use English more in his line of work by communicating with American business partners and clients in English when the opportunity presents itself. He has been busy with work, but hopes to one day return to the states for vacations and practice there as well.

Isabelle TS#18/19 with Livio

Date/Time: Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (two sessions) Location: Online on Zoom Topic/Skill: Active and Passive Voice Feedback provided to the tutee: For this session, Livio and I worked on the differences between the active and passive voices. This topic came up during our last lesson when we were learning about writing emails in American English, since Livio did not fully understand the difference between these two tones. The activity we did was modeled after an activity we did for a different lesson that he really enjoyed, where we used his social media page as a vehicle for the activity. I asked him to write sentences about the image on his Instagram in both the active and passive voice so he could learn the difference between the two in practice. Max TS#20 - Karim

 4/29  In Tuesday's session, Karim and I continued working on some more advanced level reading comprehension and conversation. We have been reading lots of international affairs related news articles so Karim can prepare for his master's program with the International Affairs school. The past couple sessions have generally been conversation between Karim and I where I speak to him as I would my friends, so he is more exposed to more everyday speech. When we converse I jump in to correct him or give definitions to any unknown vocabulary.
