Isabelle TS #4 with Livio

 Date/Time: Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, 5:30-6:30 PM

Location: Dodd Hall at FSU

Topic/Skill: Speaking

Feedback provided to the tutee: Since Livio was not in class for a week because of the snow and was traveling over the weekend for work, I decided that today's lesson shouldn't be too intensive but should still be productive. Therefore, Livio and I spent the session talking about his work trip since he wants to practice speaking for the sake of work. I asked what he talked to his clients about, what the exhibition he was attending was like, and if any parts of his weekend gave him trouble with his English. Any time he was incorrectly describing something, I would question him about it and give him a moment to think about if his sentence was correct. Luckily, this feedback was successful 100% of the time and Livio spoke very well overall!

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned more about linguistic cultural differences, specifically between English and Italian. Some of the words that Livio was struggling with were past tense conjugations such as 'met' or any vowel sound with a short 'e'. This is because in Italian, the letter 'e' is only pronounced with a long sound and therefore he struggles to remember to use the short sound. This is something I'll be incorporating in our future lessons!
